This year's Snowman

We got a big storm mid-week that pretty much shut everything down Wednesday night and Thursday. It actually started by snowing overnight Tuesday and J and R went outside and made a snowman in the morning on Wednesday while J was shoveling. It was perfect snowman snow--heavy and wet and packing VERY well.

Then Wednesday night the really big storm hit and we got around 10 inches of snow. Sadly, our snowman did not survive the storm. You can see his "remains" in the picture below. But it sure did look gorgeous out on Thursday morning.

It's snowing again

So I thought I'd throw up a few photos of R in the snow last week.

We're closed again tomorrow

It finally stopped snowing. There is SO MUCH SNOW. I don't think I've ever personally witnessed this much snow in my life.

Weather Update

J and I are off work again today (we were off Monday as well) due to blizzard conditions in our area. It really is pretty wild and hairy out there. J was outside shovelling and had to shovel snow off of our bushes because there was easily more than a foot sitting on top of them and it was dangerously close to falling off (and requiring that he shovel our walkway again should that happen). Those bushes you see in the middle of the photo are about as tall as me, to give you some idea of how much snow we have. Can you find R?
The bushes right in the foreground are the bushes J had to shovel snow off of.

"Fun" in the Snow

We have more than 20 inches of snow, and it's still coming. Latest forecast calls for snow until well into the evening, so we'll see how much we end up with. The problem with this much snow though is that R can't really play in it because it's so freaking deep. This is one of those times that I wish I was 14 years old again and had my brothers all at home to play in this with. We would have SUCH a rockin' time in all this snow.

Here's J shoveling and me and R goofing off in the snow a bit. Then we came inside and had hot chocolate.

Snow... Day 3

And the snow stuck around for a few days, so J and R got even more fun out of it. Here they are making a snow chair and having fun sitting in it.

Snow... Day 2

Then, overnight, we got a ton more snow. It totally rocked. We all got a snow day out of it. Here's J taking R out in the snow once again. Their little snowman from the day before got completely buried. (He also fell over). I didn't go outside because I no longer own snow boots and didn't want to get my feet wet. J also does not own snow boots and put plastic bags over his socks before putting shoes on. Fortunately R has a kick-butt snow suit that includes little waterproof boot covers, so she had nothing to worry about.

Snow... Day 1

It snowed the other weekend and J and R went outside and made a snowman. The snow was wet and perfect for packing and rolling snow. R had a lot of fun looking at the snowman and poking various sticks in it.

Winter's really here, isn't it?

We finally got some snow that looks like it might stick on the ground for a day or two.

Unfortunately, this also means I have to clear off the car in the mornings before taking R to day care. Not my favorite part of the day!

Playing in the Snow

It snowed over the weekend-- gorgeous again--and the snow actually lasted into Sunday morning (yippee!) Granted, there wasn't very much of it, but there was definitely more than the last time.

J even taught her how to make a snow angel. Sort of!

Remember that post I made about the snow?

It snowed again the day after I made that post. It was beautiful!

Here's a picture of what it looked like in the morning:Here's a picture of R "playing" in it later that afternoon:

Definitely not in Texas anymore!

It snowed today!

It snowed today!

Real snow! Falling from the sky in beautiful white flakes. Oh, it was gorgeous. And I walked home with snow falling all around me, landing gently on my head and swirling in the air. So awesome.

I've missed this.

Living here I feel like I'm rediscovering all kinds of things we didn't really have in Texas.

The first was, of course, fall. Seeing the leaves change colors and be beautiful and vibrant, and feeling the crisp fall air and being able to savor the change in season.

And now, the first snowfall of the year. They say it doesn't snow much here-- that we'll get an occasional snowfall that doesn't hang around for very long-- but it still does snow! Yippee!
