Some more shots of that tooth!

His second tooth, as I've mentioned before, is on its way, but it's not poking through yet. I've got my little pirate for a little while longer!!!

The Tooth

This picture that Grammie took at GiGi and PopPop's house in Connecticut last weekend is the best one yet of RUS with his one little pirate tooth!

Toothpaste

Yesterday I took R to the natural foods store because it's the closest grocery store to us and we needed to pick up a few things, including whole milk for R and some more fruit and fresh veggies. I had intended to stop at Walgreens on the way back home but decided against that plan because of the hassle of carrying all the groceries plus pushing the stroller. So I just looked at the natural foods store for infant toothpaste to see what they had, and found this stuff: Weleda Children's Tooth Gel. We've only used it once, but it seems fine so far. R wasn't nuts about having her teeth brushed, but we'll keep working on it and eventually she'll probably like it.

Those of you who brush your baby's teeth, do you do it 2x a day, after every meal, or just 1x a day? Our pediatrician seemed to say it was fine to just do it right after nursing before bed, but I'm not sure if we should be doing it at other times of day, too.

And, while we're talking about teeth, R has eight teeth now! Four on top and four on bottom. No molars yet, as far as we can tell.

It's official: Six.

It's official. I've seen--and felt--these suckers. She has six teeth. Granted, two of them are barely visible. But soon she'll have a mouth filled with six teeth. All the better for grinding her food with.

She's been waking up at night the last few nights, making us wonder if she's working on some other teeth as well.

In daycare news, she fingerpainted today. Apparently she liked doing it with her feet a lot better than doing it with her hands.

Only four teeth...

Ok, so some of you may remember that awhile back, I made a post titled "Four teeth?" In that post, I talked about how R seemed to be cutting four teeth simultaneously. [Edited to add: I also give an update on those teeth in this post. (And, if you've been paying especially close attention, you've noticed you can click on any of the labels at the bottom of a post and find all the other posts that share that label.)]

Fast forward almost 2 months, and only 2 of those four teeth have actually materialized. Nevertheless, my blog post title was apt, in that she now has a total of four teeth-- two on top and two on bottom.

Yesterday, a fifth tooth cut through, one of her eye teeth on bottom. And, I swear to all that is holy (I'm being so emphatic because I've been thinking this tooth was going to pop through for two solid months now!) that her top left central incisor is just about all the way through.

So, in a day or two, she may have six teeth. Seems like not very many given that she's 14.5 months old, but everything I've read suggests that babies get their teeth at different rates, so this is probably perfectly normal.

Teeth update

Two of R's top front teeth (the two on her right) are already through and the other two on her left will definitely break through very soon. She has been in quite a bit of teething discomfort the last few days. Cross your fingers for a full night's sleep for all of us tonight! Off to bed now!

Four teeth?

We think R is cutting four teeth (yes, four!) right now--all of the ones on top in the front. Poor baby! Two of them may have already broken through, and I hope the other two come through soon. It is no easy feat to look at a 1-year-old's gums, so I haven't gotten a really clear look, but from what I can tell, I really think each of those teeth are ready to pop out, if they haven't already. J's gotten a better look and he says the two on her right have already broken the surface, and that the other two are almost there.

I hope when they come through that it means the end of her night wakings the last few days. She usually gets right back to sleep, but we think the only reason she's waking up at all is because her gums hurt.
