So J and Grampie are definitely putting together a dollhouse-slash-bookcase for R! I'm so excited-- I found these plans on ebay and the finished product is totally cute. Here's a link to a blog post showing what the dollhouse/bookshelf will (supposedly) look like when it's done.
This weekend during Grammie and Grampie's visit, J and Grampie have been hard at work. Yesterday they went shopping and got most of the materials they needed, and today they got most of the boards cut, although J still has to go back to Home Depot to pick up some more pieces of wood and a few other supplies.
This evening we were talking about what color we should paint the roof and window/door trim. What do y'all think?

ReplyDeleteI agree..go with what would look best in her room...match it as best as you can to the decor..I do think that doll house/bookshelf is adorable and plan on sending it to my friends with little girls..they may like it as well...

i see your point about matching what we've already got, so it might help to give some more details... most of R's room is currently light green because that's the gender-neutral stuff we got when we were planning her nursery before she was born. it's not necessarily the color scheme we'll go with once she gets her "big-girl" stuff though-- like she won't be in the crib forever, that kind of thing.
ReplyDeletewe did buy her a little chair that is navy blue gingham. i think that chair is going to go downstairs rather than in her room, but it might end up in her room at some point. and we do, as my mom mentioned, have that painting with the orange and blue in it. There's also some magenta as well although I really can't see doing the house trim in a magenta color.
i really don't know what we'll do, color-scheme wise, for her room. so the house may be a starting point for us.
What color will the actual shelf/house be? I've always liked light yellow w/ white trim and a dark green roof. I saw a dollhouse w/ that color scheme once and really liked it.
ReplyDeletewe bought melamine boards so they are already white-- the only thing that needs to be painted is the roof, trim, and the inside edges of the holes that are cut out for the windows and doors. we could have painted everything but it saves a lot of time (and paint) having the sides/shelves already be white.
ReplyDeletethe light yellow with white trim/green roof sounds so classic! if we painted the rest of the house another color (we won't, though) i think that would really make it seem more like a doll house than a bookshelf shaped like a doll house (know what I mean?)
