I am a dunce

Ok, so every time we looked at our kitchen--before we bought the house, in the pictures we took of the house, living in the house for a week--I would have sworn all of our cabinets, our stove, and our refrigerator were white.

Last week we bought a new dishwasher. White, of course. Plus, the one we bought was a floor model (the only one in the store), discounted more than 50%, and it had all the features we wanted.

When the appliance guy came to install it yesterday, one of the first things he said was, "Are you sure you want white when everything else is almond?" Well, almost everything else-- the fridge is apparently "bisque," or, as he described it, "the new almond."

Looking at the dishwasher in this picture, I am absolutely stunned that I had no idea that the rest of the kitchen was not white. I told J today that I think part of it is that I just thought we had very yellow lighting that made all the cabinets and everything look dingy.

Oh well! I already hated the cabinet doors so those will be among the first things to get changed, sometime, some day, who knows when, probably ten years down the line. Until then, our white dishwasher will just have to stand out.

  1. The dishwasher doens't look too bad..don't worry about it..if you want a quick fix to the cabinets..something until you can get new ones..just paint them..you'll have to take the cabinet doors off, but you could paint them white, or go with an entirely different color..just a thought..

  2. Don't worry about matching the dishwasher with the cabinets. Our original cabinet doors are the same exact ones you guys have now and we also have a white dishwasher (which we eventually replaced after it nearly burned the house down). We contemplated painting the doors also, however instead we had a local company order new oak doors for us(which matched the rest of the cabinet) and I installed them myself. The hardest part was the measuring, but the company did it for us. We ordered the knobs and handles and installed them also. We love the new look. The cost of the doors was only slightly less than ordering the entire cabinetry, but much easier to install!
