R had a busy day today. We dragged her around in the car quite a bit. First it was to look at houses, where we took her out of the car, walked around a strange house, then strapped her back in only to repeat the process again in a few minutes.
A funny thing happened in the middle of the tour. After we'd seen the first house (which we liked by the way - the only one we really considered a real possibility), R fell asleep in the car on our way to the next one. So S went in to look at the place while I stayed with R in the car to wait my turn. When S and the agent get out of the house, S comes up to me and starts telling me how awful the place is, but I should look anyway. So I walk up to where the agent is shutting the door and I see her stop where she is, frozen for a second, and I know something is up. She had just locked her thing in the house. The thing that lets her get into the other houses that we are going to see. So she starts looking for a way back into the house and thinking up what she can do while S and I decide we want to skip the other places in the same neighborhood because they have the same stinky layout.
The agent then decides to drive to a nearby Re/Max office and beg to borrow one of their things to get in and get her thing. We wait. I take a walk down the road to look at the outside of the other house we were going to see. Eh. She comes back. No luck. She had called the selling agent and they were up in PA somewhere. However, another agent was going to "preview" the house and could come by in a few minutes. So we stand around and chat about houses and layouts that we like and all. R wakes up and we pull her out for a bit. Finally the other agent comes and we get into the place. I take a look around, roll my eyes, stick out my tongue, and off we go to the next place.
In all we looked at 5 or 6 places. We couldn't get an appointment with the one that we thought was the best location. So even the closest ones we saw were more than a walk away from campus. And the neighborhoods they were in were kind of isolated places where you'd have to drive to get out to anything interesting. But we did like that first place.
Later on we took a drive up to Target and Trader Joe's, which it turns out is like 20 miles from our house. Not only that, but I decide to try the interstate, which is supposed to be faster. We were stuck in stop and go traffic for at least 15 minutes. Ugh! At least I feel like I know better now which way to go.
R was really pretty good about the whole in and out of car thing today. Sure, she fussed some toward the end (especially at Joe's, where she wanted to grab all of the food on the shelves even though we had just had dinner), but at the same time she was smiling and waving to all of the strangers around us. Hopefully tomorrow we can keep her out of the car and maybe run around outside a bit. Sleep tight little R, you've had a long day, and tomorrow you will play.
